My husband and I moved to Texas over five years ago leaving our families on the east coast. With no children in the picture and, as a result a more disposable income, we weren’t weighted down by this decision because a trip was just a plane trip away for us.
But then we had our first child 4 years ago in January. And the beautiful word GRANDPARENTS entered our vocabulary and the reality of HOW EXPENSIVE children can be settled in very quickly.
It’s hard being so far away from family. We treasure our visits with Grandma and Grandpa Parker and Granny Hudson.
Now that Dom is old enough, we make phone calls and thanks to the internet we have video chats.
Grandparents visit and, although the time is always too short, we treasure every moment. Even they are so far away, they remain close in our hearts and in our memories together.
This post is part of a 31 day movement. You can learn more about it here but the gist of it is that I take 5 minutes to write on a one word prompt that is provided following a theme that I have chosen. My theme is The Mom Life. So every post will center around my life and experiences as a mom and what comes to mind when I think about the prompt given. Hope you enjoy following my writing journey as much as I will love crafting the words.
