What’s with the Helmet?

Just shy of a month ago, Charlee gained an accessory that will be in her possession for the next few months. She received a DocBand.

Charlee with her helmet for the first time!

I know a lot of people have privately asked, while others have wondered, “What’s with the helmet?”

To be honest life has been just too incredibly busy to explain so here’s the short answer:

Charlee has plagiocephaly and brachycephaly. Simple definition: flattening of the skull both on the side(plagiocephaly) and back(brachycephaly).

The DocBand will help correct this flattening and help to shape her head more normally.

Although there are definitely cosmetic reasons for seeking this treatment, there are quite a few health reasons as well. Flathead as it’s been called can cause such health problems as vision and hearing impairment, jaw misalignment and developmental delays.

We’ve been very busy with dr’s visits, chiropractic adjustments and will very soon be adding physical therapy to the mix. Through this all, our strong little lady has been a champ.

She actually likes her helmet and I’ve been having fun decorating it with stickers.

So there you have it, friends and family {and strangers googling things like plagiocephaly in the middle of the night}. In the coming weeks, I’ll explain more and let you in on little more of Life with Charlee as we embrace this part of our journey.
