Intentional Summer Fun {Week 5}

Feels like July snuck in and is about to sneak out on me. Hard to believe that there’s not that much summer left. But I am glad that I can look back on a huge portion of our summer and see fun activities. Even a day in our p.j.’s doing laundry and having Super Why? marathons seems okay when I line them up beside days of activity. So here goes. Let’s see how this week measures up with intentionality and fun.

Monday: We had fun at Library Story Time. Afterwards we went to the park that is connected to the library by a parking lot.  We had fun on the swing and met a very nice dog. Dom was shy at first but would point from a distance. Just before we left, he finally was brave enough to touch him.

On our 8 minute drive home, Dominic fell asleep. So nap time followed by lunch. Not really sure what else we did on this day because this was the day that Dominic had a major meltdown. Cue adorably pathetic picture.

Oh my.

He was a mess from about 3:30 til I put him into bed before 6. And yes that’s early but he didn’t wake up til 6:30 the next day so I’d say he needed it.

Tuesday: We went to the mall where I ‘rocked it’. Three laps and my slowest lap was only 24 seconds slower than my fastest lap the week prior. Afterwards we went onto the playland. We didn’t stay long. I’m guessing as friendly as Dom can be he still gets shy just like every other child and today that’s what happened.

It’s about a mile per lap. Kept up this pace pushing Dom in the stroller!

Wednesday: This is my day to plan for school. So after dropping Dominic off at summer care, I got busy. I crossed everything off my list but it was a harder day. My motivation was a little low…guess that happens from time to time. I picked Dominic up and on our way home, Dom fell asleep. While he slept, I took a nap myself before heading out the door for an ear appointment with a new ENT. I really like her and feel like she is really going to be able to help me. {more on that in a later post}

Thursday: Dominic’s 18 month appointment! He officially weighs: 24.4lbs, his head is 47 cm and a whopping height of 31 inches (that’s a bit short). So other than his height Dom is representing the 25%tile. Health wise and developmentally the doctor says he looks great. No shots this visit which was NICE!

And, in good form, Dom fell asleep on the car ride home. And slept for 2 hours!!! Guess the doctor visit wore him out.

Daddy came home for lunch which was a great treat. And then later that evening we had lifegroup and stayed out late which Dom loved. His usual bedtime is 7 and we didn’t even make it home til close to 10.

Friday: In honor of Dom’s 18 month birthday we have been doing laundry and mopping seriously dirty floors. We’ve also enjoyed a few episodes of Super Why? and read books and cuddled and Dom took an awesome nap. Marshall is working from home this afternoon which is a rare treat as well.

I was able to catch this precious father son moment.

And here’s a pic of my sweet 18 month old toddler.

So not exactly the busiest or exciting of weeks but a good one all the same.

How’s your summer going?

Intentional Summer Fun {week 4}

We had a fun week.

We started off Monday with a trip to the chiropractor. Dom’s been seeing Dr George since before he was born!
Later that afternoon we had fun with shaving cream, finger paint and cookie cutters.

Building at the dr’s office

Tuesday morning we were out the door pretty quickly for the mall. We started with a brisk 40 minute walk (3 laps) around the mall. Dom loved hanging out in the stroller and waved at a lot of people. Afterwards, I took Dom to the mall playland. He had fun and even made a friend. Kinsey showed Dominic the ‘ropes’ of the playground. It was too cute.

Every lap I got faster!!

Wednesday, if we are in town, I’ve been going to my workplace to do some planning and get ready for next school year. So while I made mad progress, Dominic played with his friends and Mrs Becky. He had so much fun that he passed out in the car almost immediately.

Later that afternoon we played outside for a bit.

Fun times

Thursday, we had fun going to the zoo with my friend Stacy and Dom’s little friend Phoenix. We went to the Dallas Zoo! It was lots of fun. We saw the elephants, the giraffes and the cheetahs. We also went on the monorail for a fun tour. Afterwards we rode on the carousel and played in the Children’s zoo. We saw goats and fish! And a really big rabbit! It was really fun!

On the carousel

That night Dom and Marshall met up with our lifegroup at In and Out. I was at a dinner meet up with my co workers. We both had fun and came home bubbling with stories.

And today, Friday, has been a cleaning day. Lots of laundry and catching up on things that this busy week has over looked.

So a pretty fun week!

We hope to get back to the library story time next week and check out one of our local splash pads, too!

How was your week? Enjoying your summer?

Intentional Summer Fun {Weeks 2 & 3}

The past two weeks have been fun times. Dom met more people on our trip to Florida than I thought his little self could possibly handle! But he did well. And when we got home, he and I both crashed!

Here are some highlights of our trip and our adventures this past week.

Our Monday flight out was perfect. Dominic did very well and everyone was so nice and helpful.

Waving at the Southwest Employees taking care of things with the airplane.

After our successful plane trip, our adventures led us to Enterprise for our car rental. I wish I could have gotten a picture of me and Dom. But here’s an idea of what I looked like while carrying Dominic’s carseat in a case that I was toting on my back like a backpack, I pushed Dom in the stroller with a bag hooked to the stroller handle while pulling a roller bag behind me.

It was challenging but not too bad.

After we got our rental, we started the drive to Palatka to see Granny!

Granny sure was happy to see Dominic!

We spent the next few days with Granny and caught up with a few very special people.

Dom really liked Mr Robbie
Mrs Linda taught him a really cool trick. Those pockets actually have a purpose!
Dom had fun hanging out with Aunt Marsha too.

We had fun meeting new people but the best part of our visit with Granny was…GRANNY!!

Book Time!

Before we knew it, our time with Granny was up and we were off to our next adventure; a quick stop in Ocala to see Auntie Char and Uncle Tom. We ate lunch a El Toreo’s and enjoyed catching up.

I love this couple ‘as big as the world!!’

Then we were off again and on our way to Lakeland. I had a dear dear friend getting married. I told her once that wherever she was I would be at her wedding.

We stayed with old friends Ann and Natalee and had a blast catching up with them and meeting Ann’s dog: Jasper and Natalee’s cat Satina.

While we were in Lakeland, we couldn’t miss an opportunity to meet up with the Frye’s.

Some dear friends: Clyde and Bev Frye

Then the awaited moment! When my friend Jolene would say: “I do!!!”

Dom all snazzied up with his ‘date’ Ann

The wedding was beautiful! The colors were amazing, the music exquisite, the bride breath taking!

A gorgeous bride. A handsome groom. A beautiful love story.

Dom did pretty well at the reception. And I got a few minutes with the bride. Isn’t she beautiful!!

The next day, we packed our bags and drove to the airport. After returning the rental and struggling for about five minutes with our stuff, the Enterprise guy felt super sorry for us and helped me get our stuff to the Southwest counter.

Note to self: carry cash for the people with carts. It is sooooo worth it when you’re by yourself.

We got there pretty early but I thought that would be wise so Dominic could run around and wear himself out before we were confined to close quarters on the plane ride home.

So we played. A Lot.

Playtime in the airport

Remember that part about tiring the fella out for the plane ride?

Tired Monkey

Yep. He slept a huge majority of both flights and was an absolute sweetheart when he was awake.When we landed both Dominic and I were soooo ready to see Marshall.

Sooo happy to see Daddy

Our trip was wonderful but it did wear us both out more than I expected. Week 3 of intentional summer fun was far from intentional. We did have some fun times on the 4th of July. We walked in a parade and grilled out and played in our new blow up pool. The rest of the week is a blur really other than a fun trip to the mall playland. Lots of sleeping, laundry, Super Why! and recooperating from our trip. I plan to get back on track next week. I’m thinking a trip to the zoo is in order.

Well that was our Intentional Summer Fun Wrap Up. Hard to believe June is gone and July is well under way. How is your summer going so far?
