Making Beautiful Day Four: Embrace

Marshall’s dad was admitted into the hospital last Sunday. For most of the day we held our breath and prayed without ceasing as we were truly unsure of what was wrong or what his dad’s breathing problems and lethargy all meant.

Watching my husband struggle through wondering how his dad was doing was brutal. The questions piling up:

“Should I standby? Should I go? Is he going to be okay? How serious is this? If I do go, what about you and the kids?”

There is something so beautiful about the inner turmoil of a man who is fully devoted to his family but eternally loyal to his parents. We looked at each other and I told him: “You would already be up there if it weren’t for us. GO!”

Tickets were purchased. A dear friend drove Marshall to the airport and so began my flurry of solo parenting three children.

It wasn’t an easy week for either of us. Learning that his dad was going to be just fine with rest, medication, and time was a huge relief. Knowing that Marshall’s presence there was a great support to his mom and extra reassurance and love for his dad made it worth it.

The kids and I survived. We may have eaten a little more toddler food than I would like and most days we were running late, but we embraced it because we knew that ‘daddy’ was right where he needed to be.

Because making {family a priority} is beautiful.
