We went to the Allen Birthing Center on Thursday for my first prenatal appointment.
***For those who didn’t know, I have chosen to go through a birth center with the hopes of having as natural a birthing experience as possible. In other words, I don’t want the hospital feel. I’ll blog more about that at a later date.***
It was a typical first appointment complete with drawing blood, medical history, physical exam. And then. The part we had been waiting for!!!! The. Heart. Beat. Our midwife, Becky, pulled out the heartbeat doppler, applied some jelly like substance to my belly and the search was on for our little one’s heartbeat. After about 5 minutes of searching, it was pretty clear that it was too soon to pick it up via doppler. So Becky gave me two different options. One: we could come back next week and try again OR Two: We could go to an Imaging Office and get an ultrasound. Although I would love to say that I had enough faith/patience to wait until the following week, I opted for the ultrasound.
So after a few more preliminaries, like paying for the visit, we were out the door and headed in search of a heartbeat. After an hour of waiting we were called back. I’ll spare you the details, but it wasn’t the most glamourous form of a sonogram. The sonographer at first was really serious. She’d move the wand this way and type. Move it another way and type some more. I held my breath a lot through that. Then she told us that she heard a heart beat and we were able to hear it!!!! I just started crying. It was so beautiful! 173 and healthy! You can go here to hear it.
Then we were able to see our baby!
Baby Parker was moving around. Very active little one!!!
It was just a beautiful day!!
Well here’s my belly. Feels like I popped a little…but then I feel like that every week.
Saturday I bought a whole bunch of maternity tank tops at Old Navy. They were on sale for $2 and I also bought a pair of maternity shorts for the same price at a thrift shop. It’s probably a lil early for full blown maternity but since my favorite jeans no longer fit, I figure a few items are definitely allowable.
The nausea continues to linger but now it is coming almost without fail in the evening. Serious bummer. Oh well. Baby Parker is making his/her presence known. And that is fine by me!
My next appointment is July 7th. I’ll be 14 weeks. Wow. I like the sound of that. Second trimester. Here I come!
Life is beautiful!
